Choosing a Pet Sitter: Are We a Good Fit for You?
So, you decided that you are finally going away on vacation! Hooray! Make arrangements with your travel agent, pack your bags and ‘Hasta La Vista, Baby”! Wait, not so fast? What about your fur family? In whose care did you decide to leave them with? Choosing someone to care for your pet while you are away is not an easy task! It’s imperative that you keep certain considerations in mind before you scamp away on your vacation.
Keep these questions in mind as you interview pet sitters. Consider what your deal breakers are before you meet with each provider.
Is the Pet Sitter part of a professional pet sitting company?
Placing your pet in the hands of an individual employed by a company that is licensed, and insured provides the added measure of safety and security while you are away. ALso these companies always have a back up! If a pet sitter gets sick- companies that have a staff always have that ”buddy sitter” ready to fill in at a moment’s notice.
Will you meet the pet sitter beforehand?
All seasoned pet sitters will require a meet and greet. The pet sitter will be looking to make sure that he or she is a good fit for you while you are doing the same. This is a great time for you to ask questions! Sit down ahead of time and think about what you want to know. Most companies will provide a list of what they will go over beforehand so you are prepared and know what to expect and of course your animals and the pet sitter should be comfortable with each other.
Is there a service agreement?
Professional companies will provide you with a service agreement. This protects both the company and you. There will be no guessing or presumptions about what services you will be provided to your pets. A contract will denote, in detail, the responsibilities of the pet sitter and pet parent alike.
Will the pet sitter keep you informed while you are away?
Nowadays, most professional companies will keep you up to date on how your pet is doing while you are away. Some may send a daily email while others will send a text message after each visit. Even better, some will send photos and live video so you can see for yourself how well your pets are enjoying their staycation while you are away.
As you can see, there’s a lot to consider when choosing the best pet sitter for your pets while you are away. As I mentioned above, thinking about your non negotiables before the meet and greet. It’s important to know where you draw the line. What do you want out of your pet sitter?
DWE is available to set up a complimentary meet and greet even though you may not have exact dates in mind but are thinking of going on a vacation and leaving your pets behind.
